How it works

  1. 01

    Call the API

One GET request with your key in a header. Anything that speaks HTTP will do - a terminal, a script, a smart home.

  2. 02

    Get the forecast data

JSON with a forecast several days ahead, by the hour or by the quarter hour - the expected price and the band of uncertainty around it. Every response carries the unit it used and the time the forecast was made.

  3. 03

    Build

Automate a smart home, charge, trade or plan around the cheap hours. Home Assistant and evcc read our API directly, with no add-ons and nothing to modify.

curl -s "https://api.spotforecast.eu/v1/forecast?zone=CZ" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $SPOTFORECAST_KEY"

Prices are EUR/MWh unless you ask for another unit. Every response states the unit it used.

Who will use it

  • Energy traders

Seeing ahead is a competitive edge.

  • Smart homes

The heat pump, the boiler, the car charger and the home battery all run on the days and hours that are cheapest.

  • Electric car owners

No smart home, but an electric car? Knowing when it is cheap to charge is where the saving is.

  • Battery systems - BESS

Charge when power is cheap. Discharge when it is dear. Seeing more than a day ahead can earn more and spend fewer cycles doing it, which is what makes the batteries last.

  • Utilities and providers

Plan procurement and customer tariffs on forecasts you can audit afterwards.

Everything is free for now

The service is early, so it is free for everyone until further notice. We keep working on the models, the forecasts are refreshed, the API works, and for now we want nothing for it. Everyone who signs up gets the full forecast horizon for every zone we carry. The history of spot prices is there too, together with the forecasts we published at the time, so you can check for yourself how accurate they were.

We will charge eventually, and we will say so well before we do. Nothing you build now will stop working without warning.
